Overview

InLine Engineers, A Gray Company, is hiring for an Electrical Engineer II role in the Atlanta area. InLine has been providing engineering and project management services for the development and execution of capital projects relating to processing, packaging, and facility improvements in the food and beverage industry since 1996.

Responsibilities

Position Description

 

Serving as a degreed engineer in conventional aspects of Electrical Engineering discipline, plans and conducts work requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques. Experience/ exposure to food and/or beverage production is strongly preferred. The Electrical Engineer II shall assist in the completion of internal and external projects. You will have the opportunity to work on all phases of a project, from the initial concept/ budgeting through the installation and start-up of new lines, as well as upgrades to existing production lines. Process Engineer II works closely with Project teams to perform process design and assist in the successful completion of projects for our valued customers. This is a salaried, exempt position.

 

Direction Received

 

Reports to the Director/General Manager of the local office. Independently performs assignments with instructions as to the general results expected. Receives technical guidance from experienced discipline engineers. Receives supervisory approval of project deliverables during the course of the project.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

May be assigned as Discipline Lead, Project Lead, Design Engineer, or Project Engineer. Plans, schedules, and conducts, detailed engineering tasks.  Performs work which involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and difficult coordination requirements. 

 

Work requires knowledge of precedents in Electrical Engineering and a growing knowledge of principles and practices of food and/or beverage processing.  May support installation and commissioning for projects. Help others as needed to meet department and company goals. This may require working overtime and weekends.

  

Responsibility for Direction of Others

 

As an Electrical Engineer II, may plan, organize, and supervise the work of a staff of engineers and technicians; evaluates progress of the staff and results obtained; estimates manpower needs, schedules, and assigns work to meet completion dates and budgets. May lead in equipment installation oversight and/ or commissioning activities.  

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Performs detailed electrical design calculations, including total utility needs, one-line diagrams, I/O lists, defining power source and power runs.
  2. Leads various activities related to the electrical equipment required, and manages electrical deliverables for projects. Assists with work efforts on proposals and project budgets.
  3. Collaborates with Project Management, design team, CAD Design department, Sales, vendors and customers to determine needs and solutions for batch and/or continuous processing systems and to develop specifications, to include estimation, justification, budget, schedule, design, implementation, acquisition, installation, start-up, troubleshooting, and ensure that facilities and equipment are in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  4. Develop energy balances.
  5. Assist in creation and review of electrical drawings.
  6. Performs on-site audits and surveys of the customer’s facilities and equipment.
  7. Prepares vendor and contractor bid and construction packages for project electrical equipment, components, and installations. Lead or assist with bid analyses.
  8. Develops electrical engineering requirements as a member of a Project Team.
  9. Develop written sequence of operation narratives.
  10. Continue to build an understanding of all types of electrical equipment in a range of applications.
  11. Satisfy the customer by completing the defined Scope of Work in timely fashion.
  12. Generate requirements for equipment performance and lead /participate in vendor FAT’s, reviews and trials.
  13. Visit customer sites for data acquisition, meetings and to oversee installation and start-up as needed.
  14. Ability to close out projects successfully.
  15. Handles lead engineering discipline as a member of a Project Team.
  16. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requirements and Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited curriculum, or equivalent.
  2. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the detailed electrical design of food and beverage production lines or related/ transferrable expertise is required.
  3. Experience in the development and execution of capital projects is required.
  4. Experience in power distribution and automation, and/or controls, is required. Experience in food/ beverage processing systems is strongly preferred.
  5. Experience in writing scope of work documentation and managing contractors on project sites is required.
  6. AutoCAD experience is a plus.
  7. General understanding of automation control systems (PLC, HMI, VFD’s, etc.) is required. Ability to write equipment specifications, specify power and control systems. Awareness of manufacturers for same.
  8. Knowledge of Electrical Codes and Standards.
  9. Ability to generate single-line diagrams and panel drawings.
  10. Basic understanding of power systems and motor controls.
  11. Solid experience with MS Outlook, MS Project, MS Excel and MS Word
  12. Ability to perform in a team environment.
  13. Good verbal and written communication skills.
  14. Technical specification writing experience. Ability to create bid documents and review bids.
  15. Demonstrates experience in scheduling skills.
  16. Attentiveness to detail, follow-up procedures, and documentation of action. Proficient in time management and personal organization.
  17. Ability to read BFDs, PFDs, and P&IDs.
  18. PE status or a planned pursuit is a plus.
  19. Travel is required.
  20. Valid driver’s license required.
  21. Ability to evaluate existing production operations, and suggest and drive solutions that provide ROI and improve productivity.
  22. Cross-functional networking and influencing ability.
  23. Strong desire and aptitude to interact and build relationships with customers and vendors.
  24. Field assignments totaling at least 12 months in duration are required as part of the total experience. 
  25. Understanding of industry best practices for power, controls, and safety.
